Prevalence of HIV in patients with malignancy and of malignancy in HIV patients in a tertiary care center from North India.
Abstract Background and objectives People living with HIV/AIDS are at increased risk of developing cancer. The goals of this study were to obtain data on the prevalence of HIV in the cancer population and vice versa at a major tertiary care cancer and HIV center in North India. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted over a 3-year period from July 2013 to June 2016, wherein successive HIV positive patients from an anti-retroviral therapy (ART) center were screened for malignancy. Simultaneously, successive cancer patients at the cancer center were screened for HIV. Baseline demographic details, risk facto...

High Incidence of Infections in HIV-positive Patients Treated for Lymphoproliferative Disorders.
CONCLUSION: HIV positive patients receiving treatment for lymphoproliferative disorders suffer from a high incidence of infections and associated mortality risk. Tailored secondary prophylaxis is beneficial and should be considered in this setting. PMID: 28558641 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The pattern of non-AIDS-defining cancers in the HIV population: epidemiology, risk factors and prognosis. A review.
Abstract The advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has significantly reduced the incidence of AIDS events, including AIDS-defining malignancies. Nevertheless, several cohort studies conducted in the post-HAART period have reported an increasing risk of non-AIDS-defining cancers (NADC). Overall, the potential mechanisms leading to an increased risk of developing NADCs probably involve multiple known and unknown factors. In addition to ageing, chronic inflammation and ongoing immune system dysregulation, other contributing factors are the co-infection with potentially oncogenic viruses (HBV, HCV, HP...

Cancer in adolescents and young adults living with HIV
Purpose of review Adults living with HIV have an increased risk of malignancy yet there is little data for adolescents and young adults. We reviewed recently published cancer epidemiology, treatment, and outcome data for adolescents and young adults living with HIV (AYALHIV) aged 10 to less than 25 years between 2016 and 2017. Recent findings AYALHIV are at increased risk of developing cancer compared to their uninfected peers. Kaposi sarcoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma occur most frequently with variation by geographical region. Increased cancer risk is associated with HIV-related immunosuppression and coinfection with ...

HIV-associated cavernous sinus disease
Conclusion: In HIV-infected patients, histological confirmation of cavernous sinus pathology is not readily available for various reasons. In resource-limited settings, one should first actively search for extracranial evidence of tuberculosis, lymphoma, syphilis and primary malignancy and manage appropriatel y. Only if such evidence is lacking should a referral for biopsy be considered.

Outcome of a HIV Positive Patient Infected with COVID-19 after an Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation: A Case Report
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report of COVID-19 infection in an HIV positive patient after BMT in Iran. Despite his immunodeficiency, COVID-19 disease had mild manifestations and he had a good prognosis. We hope that our report and that of others can remain promising to doctors and HIV patients cross fingers for COVID-19 recovery.PMID:33902413 | DOI:10.2174/1570162X19666210423124839
